Frequently Asked Questions

How much does counseling cost?

Initial 75-90 minute intake sessions are $100, and following 50 minute sessions are $75.

Is what I share in therapy confidential?

Absolutely. Everything that is shared in the therapy room is kept confidential. However, there are 4 exceptions where I am required to break confidentiality:

  1. If you intend to harm yourself or someone else

  2. Mandatory reporting responsibilities of abuse/neglect/dependency

  3. Court order or subpoena from a judge

  4. Per your request with a completed Release of Information form

Do you accept insurance?

My practice is contracted with Highlands Family Counseling, and we do not accept insurance, but are insurance-friendly and can provide you with a Superbill that you can turn into your insurance company for potential reimbursement for services.

What will the process look like?

Therapy looks different for everyone. However, there is a general process that takes place. The initial session includes time to get to know you, your background, history, presenting concerns, and goals you have for therapy. Then, we will take time to treatment plan, which means creating a plan together that works as a guide to help you meet your goals (and help me help you meet those goals). Over time, when and if you believe your goals are met and you have the skills to successfully move forward in life beyond therapy, that will be a good time for us to discuss closing out therapy for you.

Where will counseling take place?

I value your comfort and know each individual has different needs, thus I offer both in person and virtual sessions. If you choose to meet in person, my office is located in Fountain Inn. For virtual sessions (and all communication through technology), I use HIPAA compliant software.

What forms of payment do you accept?

My practice is contracted with Highlands Family Counseling, and we accept cash, check, credit card (all major cards accepted), and most HSA cards. You may wish to verify with your HSA provider that therapy services are covered.

What if I have more questions?

Initial phone consultations are scheduled through email or SMS. If you reach me, I will contact you within one business day to schedule a phone consultation at your convenience. Therapy can be an intimidating process, and I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Good Faith Estimate

If you have found yourself here, you have been referred for therapy or have sought therapy on your own. I’m required by the 2022 No Surprises Act to give you a Good Faith Estimate of the cost of treatment because we do not accept payment from insurance for this care. Since we haven't met, and don’t yet know if you want to use insurance, via Superbill, for your treatment, the information below is based on “fee for service” (out of pocket) rates.

If you DO intend to use insurance by turning in a Superbill to your insurance company, check with your insurance carrier to find out what your reimbursement rates will be–they are likely to be much smaller.

Since I have not yet evaluated your difficulties or symptoms, I must at this point estimate your course of treatment based upon the national average for a course of psychotherapy, which is 18 encounters.

This initial estimate is valid for 12 months, but you are entitled to receive an update on this estimate at any time upon request.

Current ICD-10 diagnosis: R69 (diagnosis deferred)

Anticipated treatment:

• 1 session of CPT 90791 (diagnostic evaluation) at $100

• 17 weekly sessions of CPT 90837 (psychotherapy, 60 minutes) at $75 per session

• Total of estimated “fee for services” treatment without insurance: $1,375

This is just a rough estimate based on national averages. The duration of our work together can be longer or shorter depending upon your symptoms, your work between sessions, and your response to treatment.

Unless required by a court order (an extremely rare situation), you are free to discontinue treatment at any time, and free to discuss any other modifications to treatment modalities, frequency, or duration. You are ultimately in control of your own mental healthcare; I am just here to provide help at your request.

Location of treatment: All sessions will take place at 613 Fairview Street in Fountain Inn, South Carolina.

Tax ID number: 87-2568043
